CSIR-NML Hosts Workshop on Technological Solutions for Clean India

 

Jamshedpur, May 14: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML) organised a one-day workshop on “Technological Interventions towards Swachh Bharat Mission” as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada–2026 celebrations being observed from May 1 to May 15.

Welcoming the participants, CSIR-NML Director Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury highlighted the institute’s contribution towards converting “waste to wealth” through innovative technologies, including advancements in e-waste recycling. He said such initiatives help reduce environmental pollution while promoting resource conservation and the circular economy.

Workshop Convener Dr. K. Gopala Krishna said the programme aimed to showcase the importance of technology in improving quality of life and creating a clean and green environment. He stressed that scientific innovation and sustainable technologies are essential for effective waste management and resource recovery.

Krishna Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Jharkhand Notified Area Committee (JNAC), attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Yogesh Rana, Manager, Tata Steel UISL, was the Guest of Honour.

Addressing the gathering, Krishna Kumar said Jamshedpur has secured a place among the top three cities in the small cities category for cleanliness initiatives. He highlighted several steps taken by JNAC, including the establishment of large-scale municipal waste processing plants across the city.

“Public participation is essential at every stage, from reducing waste generation to recycling, for the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission,” he said.

Yogesh Rana also shared details of Tata Steel UISL’s initiatives such as RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centres, incineration plants, and other sustainable waste management practices aimed at making Jamshedpur cleaner and greener.

The CSIR-NML officials Dr. M.K. Jha, Dr. Alok Meher, and Shri Jay Shankar Sharan delivered invited talks on the workshop theme. Mondrita Chatterjee, Brand Ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission, Jamshedpur, also presented her initiatives and contributions towards the mission.

Apart from CSIR-NML scientists and staff members, students and faculty members from Baharagora Polytechnic and Women’s University, Jamshedpur, actively participated in the workshop. Dr. G.K. Mandal, Chairman, Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 proposed the vote of thanks.
