Jamshedpur, Nov 29: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has taken a firm stance on waste management by mandating the installation of compost machines in banquet halls, marriage halls, and hotels generating over 100 kg of daily waste. Notices are being prepared for 52 establishments, including prominent hotels and event spaces, to enforce compliance.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar emphasized that food and other biodegradable waste must be processed on-site using compost machines, with the resulting compost either utilized or sold. This move aims to ensure effective waste disposal while promoting sustainability. Establishments failing to comply will face stringent penalties, including the cancellation of their trade licenses.

Key establishments under scrutiny

Several major hotels and banquet halls in Jamshedpur have been identified, including Jashn Banquet & Event Centre, The Sonnet, Ramada, and Rajasthan Bhawan in Bistupur; 79 Party Palace and The Golden in Golmuri and Kalimati Banquet, Hotel Ganga Regency and The Blue Manti Cuisine in Sakchi. Other areas such as Kadma, Sonari, and Golmuri also feature prominent establishments on the compliance list.

Strict Penalties for Violators

Kumar warned that negligence in adhering to these rules will not be tolerated. Under the Environment Protection Act, 1986, violators could face fines of up to Rs 1 lakh, a five-year prison term, or both. Additionally, all shopkeepers in the city have been directed to install dustbins near their premises to ensure proper garbage collection and disposal.

Environmental responsibility stressed

The initiative is part of JNAC’s broader commitment to cleanliness and environmental protection. “This step is necessary to manage the increasing waste generated by commercial establishments. Proper waste management is critical for maintaining the city’s hygiene and environmental standards,” said Kumar.

The JNAC is also focusing on public awareness, encouraging citizens and businesses to cooperate in creating a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment. The municipal body aims to make Jamshedpur a model city in effective waste management through consistent monitoring and strict enforcement.

This directive highlights the importance of corporate and community responsibility toward environmental sustainability while sending a clear message that non-compliance will attract severe consequences.
