JNAC launches survey of Jamshedpur Sairat Markets to streamline management, boost revenue

Jamshedpur, May 25: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has initiated a comprehensive survey across all 10 Sairat markets in Jamshedpur, with the goal of completing the exercise within a week. This initiative aims to improve market regulation, update official records, and enhance revenue generation.

The survey covers multiple aspects of market administration, including daily toll collections, status of permanent shops, validity of trade licenses, and identification of vacant plots. Markets under review include Sakchi, Bistupur, Kadma, Sonari, Sidhgora, Baridih, Kagalnagar, Manifit and Golmuri.

This marks the second such survey since administrative control of Sairat markets was transferred from the Tata Steel Land Department to JNAC. The previous survey was jointly conducted by the Tata Steel Land Department and the East Singhbhum District Administration during 2020–21. The current effort is being undertaken solely by JNAC to create an updated, digitized, and independent market database.

As part of the new survey, all shops are being assigned a unique six-digit Shop ID number, which must be prominently displayed. This requirement applies to all vendors, including those exempt from daily tolls, to facilitate better identification and ensure consistent regulatory oversight.

The survey also includes a detailed review of rent payments. Shopkeepers with outstanding dues have been directed to clear their pending rents immediately. In addition, all shops must ensure that their trade licenses are current and compliant with local regulations.

JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, who reviewed the progress of the survey and associated revenue collection efforts, emphasized the importance of cooperation from market vendors. “We expect full cooperation from shopkeepers in clearing pending rents and updating trade licenses to ensure smooth operations,” he stated.

The survey team includes the JNAC’s special officer, city manager, revenue inspector, tax collector, and representatives from the agency Sporotech. Parallel surveys by the government are also underway to strengthen the overall regulatory framework. This initiative reflects a renewed focus on transparent, efficient, and accountable market administration in Jamshedpur.
