JMM Women Stage Firewood Protest Against Soaring Fuel Prices in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) activists staged a day-long demonstration outside the East Singhbhum district headquarters on Thursday, to protest against sharp increases in cooking gas and fuel prices. The protest is part of a wider statewide campaign targeting the central government’s inability to stabilize the cost of essential commodities.

Symbolic Return to Firewood

Women activists marched with bundles of firewood on their heads. The demonstration highlighted a growing trend where rising LPG costs are forcing many low- and middle-income households to abandon gas stoves in favour of traditional cooking methods. Protesters argued that the financial burden on families has become unsustainable, with household budgets stretched to the breaking point.

Calls for Immediate Intervention

Leading the demonstration, former MLA Kunal Sarangi and JMM District President Victor Soren accused the centre of neglecting public welfare.

  • Inflation Concerns: Leaders alleged that the “soaring prices” represent a failure to deliver on promises of economic stability.
  • Escalation Warning: The party warned that the current agitation is only the beginning and will intensify across the state if fuel prices are not immediately reined in.

The event saw significant participation from the JMM women’s wing and local party workers, marking it as one of the largest inflation-focused political gatherings in the city this year.
