JMM leaders demands compensation against tusker violence

Jamshedpur: A delegation of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha members led by district JMM president and former Ghatsila MLA Ramdas Soren met the Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF) of Singhbhum on Thursday to demand compensation against damage caused by elephants.

Soren said that elephants had wreaked havoc in the villages of Ghatsila and Jamshedpur blocks in the last several days. A large number of houses were demolished and damaged by the pachyderms, leading to an alarming situation in the villages, Soren said.

The former legislator said the elephants had demolished eight houses in Chadri village under Ghatsila block few days back and had also destroyed foodgrains stored by the villagers. This has led to a panicky situation in the villages, he said.

JMM leaders alleged that the forest department officials were not prompt in dealing with the situation arising from the tusker menace. They said the houses demolished by the elephants should be repaired as soon as possible.
