Gamharia: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha members gheraoed Neelanchal Iron and Power Limited on Friday to demand compensation for the family members of a contract worker Dunu Manjhi who died during work reportedly owing to sudden sickness.
Leading the blockade before the company gate, JMM leader Sukhram Hembram said Dunu Manjhi had died on Tuesday last. The next of kin of the deceased demanded compensation as the worker had died during work.
JMM leaders said the company management had offered Rs 5 lakh in compensation for the wife of the deceased. They said they had withdrawn the protest after the compensation announcement.
Among those present during the demonstration included Ranjit Pradhan, Gora Burman, Manoj Vajpayee, Doko Singh Munda, Vinod Pradhan, Sonaram Soren and Ram Hansda.
