Jamshedpur: The court of Lokayukta in Ranchi heard the case pertaining to the mysterious death of 164 newborns in MGM Hospital. The complainant in the case, Manoj Mishra, president of Jharkhand Human Rights Conference, in his statement before the court, blamed MGM Hospital management and the Medical Council of India (MCI) for the deaths.
He sought a Secretary level probe into the deaths and also demanded that the MCI should be questioned regarding the deaths. He said the probe committee chaired by the state health director had tried to protect the accused persons instead of identifying them. He said the probe committee had put the average infant death rate in the government hospital at 30 per cent whereas the rate should be 10 per cent, he said.
Mishra also raised various other issues including lack of hygiene and cleanliness, manpower crisis, poor infrastructure and hospital acquired infection (HAI) before the Lokayukta. He demanded that a case be lodged against the MCI.
