Jamshedpur: The first-ever Urdu Bhawan in Jharkhand will be constructed at Jawaharnagar Road No. 13 in Mango at an estimated cost of Rs 85 lakh. The facility will house books in multiple languages, including Urdu, Sanskrit, Hindi, Bhojpuri, Santhali, Bengali and Ho. It will provide literature enthusiasts a space to study and research, while also offering a platform for local poets, writers and literary figures to showcase their work.
The Bhawan will serve as a center for language and literary promotion, offering free Urdu teaching classes, literary symposiums, seminars, drama performances and cultural programs. The initiative aims to preserve and promote endangered languages, extending beyond Urdu to include Sanskrit and local dialects of Jharkhand. Additionally, it will feature a display of photographs and biographies of lesser-known poets and writers to honor their contributions.
Facilities will include a library with rare books, a research center and educational workshops for students and scholars. Cultural programs such as poetry recitations, drama performances and seminars will be hosted. A translation center will facilitate the mutual translation and publication of Urdu and Sanskrit texts.
A digital library will enable access to books from India and abroad via e-books, with free Wi-Fi available. Senior litterateurs can connect online with fellow writers to share experiences. “This initiative is a milestone for the literary community, providing an inclusive space for learning and artistic expression,” said Dr. Hasan Imam Malik, President of the Urdu Bhawan Nirman Samiti.
