Jamshedpur, May 26: A unique and inclusive initiative took off in Jamshedpur with the launch of Jharkhand’s first Special Summer Camp for children from leprosy-affected families. Organized jointly by Geeta Theatre and Robin Hood Army, the week-long camp began on Monday at Gandhi Ashram, Baradwari in Sakchi, drawing participation from over 150 underprivileged children.

The inauguration ceremony featured the lighting of the lamp by key dignitaries, including Dr. Mrityunjay Dhawadia, District Leprosy Eradication Officer; Dr. Rajeev Lochan Mahato, Leprosy Consultant; and Jawahar Ram Paswan, Vice President of Apal India. Representatives from Robin Hood Army and Geeta Theatre’s leadership were also present.

Scheduled to run from May 26 to 31, the camp will be held daily from 7 AM to 10 AM within the leprosy colony premises. Geeta Kumari, President of Geeta Theatre, stated that this is the first such camp in the state dedicated to children from leprosy-affected and low-income families, offering them a space for learning, creativity and empowerment—all free of charge.

Camp activities include drama, dance, music, painting, fun games, health and hygiene sessions, good touch–bad touch awareness, civic safety and martial arts training for self-defence. The goal is to bring these children into the mainstream while fostering moral values and helping them steer clear of violence and substance abuse.

Geeta Theatre has appealed to local institutions and individuals for support. Organizations like Hind ITI, Rotaract Club of Kalimati, Sampoorna Aashray, Leo Club of Jamshedpur and SteelCity Jamshedpur have already extended their cooperation.
