CII conclave charts future of manufacturing in Jharkhand
Tata Steel VP stresses sustainable manufacturing for long-term industrial growth
Jamshedpur, June 25: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Jharkhand organized the 7th Edition of the CII Jharkhand Manufacturing Conclave in Jamshedpur on Wednesday under the theme “Transforming Manufacturing: Leadership, Technology & Green Growth.” The conclave brought together industry leaders, policymakers and experts to discuss the future of manufacturing in Jharkhand and the role of technology, innovation and sustainability in driving industrial growth.
Addressing the gathering, Diloo Bipin Parikh, Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council and Director, Vaidehi Motors Pvt. Ltd., said the future growth and competitiveness of Jharkhand’s manufacturing sector would depend on its ability to embrace innovation, sustainability, digital transformation and strategic leadership. He stressed that industries must move beyond traditional manufacturing models and adopt smart, technology-driven and environmentally responsible practices to remain globally competitive.

Anurag Chharia, Convenor of the CII Jharkhand Manufacturing Panel and Plant Head–Operations, Tata Motors Ltd., highlighted that Manufacturing 4.0 would be shaped by digital transformation, sustainability and continuous innovation. He emphasized the importance of MSMEs in strengthening industrial value chains and called for greater collaboration among industry, government, academia and technology partners.

Speaking on behalf of the industry, D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council and Vice President–Corporate Services, Tata Steel Ltd., said the future of manufacturing would be driven by visionary leadership capable of integrating technology, sustainability and innovation to meet rapidly changing global demands. Referring to India’s aspiration of becoming a developed economy and increasing manufacturing’s contribution to GDP, he noted that Jharkhand’s strong industrial base and abundant mineral resources position the state for significant growth. He stressed the need for sustained investments, a robust industrial ecosystem and long-term planning to strengthen Jharkhand’s standing as a preferred manufacturing destination. Sundara Ramam further underlined the importance of skilled manpower, technological advancement, decarbonisation, energy efficiency and responsible resource utilisation, stating that sustainable manufacturing must remain central to industrial development.

Varun Ranjan, IAS, Managing Director of JIADA and JIIDCO, Department of Industries, Government of Jharkhand, said the state is at a crucial stage of industrial transformation and has the potential to emerge as the leading manufacturing hub of Eastern India. He emphasized that achieving this vision would require coordinated efforts among industry, government, academia and other stakeholders. Highlighting the importance of quality infrastructure, industrial land, reliable power supply, efficient logistics and strong MSME supply chains, he said these factors are critical for enhancing industrial competitiveness. He also stressed the need for innovation, technology adoption, sustainability and cost efficiency to drive future growth. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to industrial development, Ranjan highlighted ongoing policy reforms, industrial corridor projects and proactive industry engagement initiatives aimed at attracting investments, fostering innovation and ensuring long-term sustainable growth in Jharkhand.
Shashank Shekhar, Co Convenor – CII Jharkhand Manufacturing & Engg Panel & Plant Head (Vice President) – KGP, Tata Hitachi Construction Co Pvt Ltd reflected on the key themes emerging from the inaugural session, noting that the discussions had reinforced the importance of leadership, technology adoption, sustainability, and stronger industry-MSME collaboration in shaping the future of manufacturing. He emphasized that the conclave provides a valuable platform for exchanging ideas, fostering partnerships, and identifying actionable pathways to enhance Jharkhand’s industrial competitiveness.
