Ranchi, July 14: The state government has waived off the penalty on the outstanding road tax for commercial vehicles and school buses. The State Transport Department has issued a notification in this regard. At the same time, state transport Minister Champai Soren has also tweeted in this regard.

Minister Champai Soren tweeted that during the Covid period, the Hemant government had given relief in road tax to all unused commercial vehicles and school buses. Now, the penalty on road tax for all non-operated vehicles registered in the state is being waived off.

Penalty waived on outstanding road tax during lockdown period

In the notification issued by the Transport Department, it was said that an effective lockdown was imposed in the state to prevent the spread of Covid infection in the first and second wave of Covid. Penal charges on outstanding road tax for commercial vehicles and school buses have been waived off during this period.

At the same time, after October 17, 2019, the penalty fee imposed on the outstanding road tax of registered buses in Jharkhand (whose permit could not be issued) was also waived. Vehicle owners should apply for this exemption by visiting the departmental website under the prescribed procedure. Vehicle owners will have to pay only the outstanding road tax. The benefit of this exemption can be availed from July 15 to August 14, 2022.

In this regard, the vehicle owner will be able to apply online for the desired tax exemption by visiting the website of the department as per the prescribed procedure. Along with this, the vehicle owner will ensure to deposit the updated arrears of the vehicle concerned in the treasury under the principal amount of road tax.

It is worth noting that due to non-operation of passenger vehicles and school buses in the lockdown, the vehicle operators were facing great difficulties and they were finding themselves unable to pay the tax of EMI of the banks. For this reason, for a long time, there was a demand for waiver of penalty by school operators and passenger bus owners.
