Jharkhand to Set Up Unique ‘Policy Lab’ For Education

Jamshedpur: In a major move to transform the state’s government school system, Jharkhand is gearing up to formulate education strategies centered around the local needs, ground realities, and aspirations of its students.

To achieve this, the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the non-profit organization ‘Dream a Dream’. Under this partnership, a specialized laboratory named the “Jharkhand Policy Lab for Education System Transformation” will be established in the state.

A Shift to Evidence-Based Learning

Moving away from traditional educational frameworks, this first-of-its-kind Policy Lab aims to modernize the public schooling system. Its primary objective is to drive policy decisions using data, deep research, and scientific evidence.

The lab will focus on reforming several key pillars of the education ecosystem, including:

• Curriculum design and pedagogy (teaching styles)
• Student evaluation and assessment methods
• Professional development and training for teachers
• Mental and social well-being of students

A Three-Year Transformation Blueprint

The joint project is planned for an initial duration of three years. During this period, the Policy Lab will focus extensively on conducting research studies, launching innovative pilot projects, fostering policy-level dialogues, and providing technical consultations to the state education department.

Bridging the Gap Between Research and Action

Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Shashi Ranjan, the State Project Director of JEPC, stated that cultivating a culture of evidence, innovation, and reflection is essential to improving grassroots educational practices. He emphasized that the newly established lab will play a vital role in bridging the gap between academic research and practical implementation, allowing Jharkhand to effectively tackle emerging challenges in the education sector.
