Jamshedpur, August 31. The accused in the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) scam surrendered in Jamshedpur court on Thursday. However, the court granted bail to the accused.
The accused include Rajesh Verma, Govindo Mukherjee and Ranjit Kumar. However, Amitabh Chaudhary, who was an accused in the case, has passed away.
While hearing the case, CJM Nishant Kumar granted bail to all.
Advocates Tapas Mitra and Prakash Jha argued for bail on behalf of the accused. Prakash Jha told the court that the case can be argued without keeping the accused in custody. After hearing the arguments, the court granted bail to the accused.
Former Ranji player Ujjwal Das lodged an FIR against JSCA officials for embezzlement of Rs 196.23 crore at Bistupur police station.
The petitioner had alleged that the BCCI had given Rs 196 crore in the year 2013-14 for other development works including cricket stadium, but the said amount has been misappropriated. Instead of developing cricket and the stadium, the stadium was made completely commercial.
In this, other activities including restaurant are being conducted. In violation of the rules made by BCCI and JSCA, the said amount was transferred to other items. The lower court had taken cognizance against all the accused.
