Jharkhand: Special campaign to add voters in electoral roll revision ahead of Lok Sabha polls

Ranchi, June 13: Preparations have been started for the Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand. Preparations have been made by the Election Commission to connect voters and do the work of electoral roll revision.

In this regard, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar has said that every citizen left out from the voter list will be added to the list. A comprehensive program has been made for this. The aim of the Election Commission is that every citizen should play an active role in the festival of democracy.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that a special campaign will be run from July 21 to August 21 to do work related to voters.

During this, common citizens can also enrol themselves as voters by visiting the voter service portal and uploading the necessary documents.

The Election Commission will send their Voter ID card to their address through speed post. On the other hand, name correction, photo correction, address correction etc. can also be done easily in Voter ID by visiting the portal.

Ravikumar said that while a special camp would be organized to add all the citizens to the voter list, every house would be surveyed and voters would be added to the list and errors would also be rectified.

This work will run between  21 July to 21 August. In this, from 17 October to 30 November 2023, if there is any claim or objection, it can be lodged.

He told that a sticker to this effect will also be pasted outside the house to identify the house which will be surveyed. Along with this, the surveyors will also enter the details related to this in a register. This will also be verified.

He said that the commission will have a special focus on adding women, disabled, elderly, third gender, sex workers and primitive tribes to the voter list. He told that the scope of error has been reduced to a great extent due to the digitalization of the entire process of linking with the voter list. This is the reason that the voter card reaches the voter’s address by speed post within 28 days of adding the name to the voter list.

He said that there is some difficulty in adding people to the voter list in urban areas as compared to rural areas. The reason for this is the expansion of the city and the continuous construction of houses, apartments etc. at new places.

Expressing happiness, he said that the female-male voter ratio in Jharkhand is continuously improving. The ratio of one thousand male voters was earlier 909 women, which has now increased to 946.

Publication of the final voter list will take place on January 5, 2024.
