Jamshedpur, Aug 14: Jharkhand shuttlers put up an excellent performance at the Yonex Sunrise East Zone Inter-State Team and Individual Badminton Championship 2023 winning five medals in the finals that concluded at Kolkata Harinavi today.
It was the first time in Jharkhand Badminton history that Jharkhand men and women players won highest number of medals in Men’s Team championship, Mixed under-19, Men and Women’s Singles and Senior Mixed double events in the championship.
In the Mixed Double under-19 event, the pair of Priyashu Tirkey and Ananya Singh clinched silver after they lost to Bengal’s Dev and Muskan 21-17, 13-21, 17-21 while Manisha Rani Tirkey had to content with Bronze medal in Women’s single event.
Shantanu Sharma bagged the Bronze medal in the Men’s Singles event while Vinay Singh and Manisha Rani Tirkey pair added one more medal in the kitty by winning Bronze.
In the Men’s Team Championship, Jharkhand exhibited splendid show before they lost to Uttar Pradesh in the semi-finals.
Altogether Jharkhand shutters clinched one silver and four Bronze medals in the championship.
Jharkhand players performed under Coach Ravi Kesri and Rahul Kumar while Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) Vice-President Ashok Joshi was the team manager.
JBA Secretary K Prabhakar Rao was also present on the occasion to motivate players.
