Jharkhand shivers as minimum temperatures drop, Jamshedpur records 12 degrees Celsius

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand experienced a sharp dip in minimum temperatures today, with several districts recording some of their coldest nights of the season. Ranchi registered a chilling 8.8 degrees Celsius, marking a significant drop in temperature. Jamshedpur recorded 12 degrees Celsius, while Daltonganj witnessed a minimum of 10.3 degrees Celsius, reflecting the widespread cold wave across the state.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) observed a decline in minimum temperatures by at least two degrees Celsius in most districts. Bokaro reported 11.2 degrees Celsius, and both Chatra and Dhanbad hovered around 11 degrees Celsius. Hazaribagh and Garhwa experienced a colder spell, with temperatures dipping to 10 degrees Celsius. The hill station of Netarhat recorded the lowest temperature at 6.5 degrees Celsius, underscoring the severity of the cold wave. Meanwhile, Jamtara recorded the highest minimum temperature in the state at 14.7 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists attributed the temperature plunge to a Western Disturbance, visible as a trough in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies at 5.8 km above mean sea level, according to satellite imagery. This weather system has significantly influenced the state’s current cold spell.

Residents across Jharkhand woke up to bright, sunny weather under clear skies, though some areas reported moderate to dense fog early in the morning, reducing visibility and disrupting movement. The IMD has forecast further drops in temperature over the next 24 hours, as the cold wave tightens its grip on the region.

The sudden dip in temperatures has prompted residents to take precautions against the cold, with many relying on warm clothing and heating arrangements to combat the chill. As the weather continues to intensify, authorities have urged citizens to stay prepared for colder days ahead.
