Jharkhand: Security forces seize explosives, dismantle Maoist bunkers in Saranda Region

Chaibasa: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the Saranda/ Kolhan region, security forces have seized an improvised explosive device (IED), dismantled five fortified Maoist bunkers, and recovered a large quantity of ammunition and daily-use supplies. The operation, launched in response to intelligence reports about the movement of top CPI (Maoist) leaders, is being conducted by a joint task force comprising Chaibasa Police, COBRA battalions, Jharkhand Jaguar, and CRPF units.

Acting on credible inputs, a special joint operation was initiated on March 4, 2025, targeting the dense forest and hilly terrain along the borders of Chotanagara and Jaraikela police station limits. On March 18, security forces engaged in an intense gun battle with Maoist insurgents near Radha Poda village under Jaraikela police station. The encounter was followed by a thorough search operation, which led to significant recoveries the next day.

On March 19, at approximately 2:45 PM, security personnel located and destroyed five well-fortified Maoist bunkers in the Radha Poda forest area. A bomb disposal squad neutralized an IED and ensured the safe disposal of other explosive materials. The forces also confiscated a large cache of ammunition and various essential supplies used by the insurgents.

The ongoing operation is part of intensified efforts to dismantle Maoist strongholds and curb insurgent activities in the region. Security forces remain on high alert, continuing their search and combing operations to ensure long-term stability in the affected areas.
