Jharkhand Govt files money suit to recover Rs 9.11 Cr from Damodar Ropeways

Ranchi, March 19:  In the case of Deoghar’s Trikuta Ropeway accident, the government has filed a money suit to recover a penalty of Rs 9.11 crore from Damodar Ropeways.

Three people lost their lives in this accident which took place on 10 April 2022.

As per a media report this, the government had constituted a high-level committee to investigate the accident, which blamed Damodar Ropeways in its report. The report said that the company ignored safety standards, due to which this accident happened.

As per the report, the friction in the shaft and bearing of the ropeway was found to be excessive. The amount of grease was only 0.9 instead of the standard 6, which put excessive pressure on the shaft.

The report also states that  no records related to the appointment of trained personnel in operation and maintenance were submitted.

The law department justified the punitive action, after which the government imposed a fine of Rs 9.11 crore on Damodar Ropeways and blacklisted it for five years. This decision was informed to the company in June 2024.

The company challenged this decision of the government in the court and called it unilateral. A bench of Justices SN Pathak and Navneet Kumar dismissed the company’s petition in November 2024 after hearing.

Despite this, the company did not pay the penalty amount, due to which the government decided to file a money suit. Jharkhand State Tourism Development Corporation (JTDCL) has filed a case in this regard in the court, and the hearing is going on. Further legal process is going on on the money suit filed under government action.
