Jharkhand Pollution Control Board limits fireworks during festivals

Jamshedpur, Oct 18: The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board has implemented stringent regulations on fireworks for upcoming festivals, aimed at curbing noise pollution. Fireworks will now be permitted for only two hours during Diwali, Chhath, and Guru Parva. For Christmas and New Year celebrations, the time limit is even shorter, allowing fireworks for just 35 minutes.

Specifically, the timings are as follows: fireworks on Diwali will be allowed from 8 PM to 10 PM, while on Chhath, the permissible hours are 6 AM to 8 AM. For Guru Parv, fireworks can be enjoyed from 8 PM to 10 PM, and on New Year’s Eve, they are permitted from 11:55 PM to 12:30 AM.

The Jharkhand High Court has also taken a strong stance against increasing noise pollution in Ranchi, ordering that complaints regarding noise should be kept confidential. Only firecrackers with a sound capacity of less than 125 decibels will be allowed for sale. Furthermore, fireworks will be banned within a 100-meter radius of designated silent zones. The court has emphasized that strict action will be taken against violators under the Air Pollution Prevention Control Act, underlining the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment during festive celebrations.
