Jharkhand: Ranchi schools to remain closed on January 6-7 amid cold

Ranchi: All government and private schools in Ranchi district will remain closed on January 6 and 7 due to the ongoing cold wave. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri issued the order on Saturday, citing concerns over students’ safety amid the extreme cold.

The decision applies to all categories of schools, including primary, middle, and high schools, across the district.

According to the Deputy Commissioner’s order, students have been struggling with the intense cold wave, making it difficult for them to attend school in the morning hours. In light of these challenges, the administration has declared the two-day closure to ensure their well-being.

However, teachers and non-teaching staff of government schools are required to report to work as usual during these two days. The order specifies that headmasters, teachers, and other staff must attend school and complete necessary administrative tasks during regular school hours.

Ranchi continues to reel under biting cold conditions, with the city’s minimum temperature plummeting to 3 degrees Celsius on Saturday. The weather station in Ranchi reported Namkum recording a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, the lowest in Jharkhand.

Residents have been experiencing freezing mornings and evenings, with only slight relief during the daytime after 10 a.m. The severe weather has particularly impacted schoolchildren, who are required to venture out early in the morning to attend classes.

To address these concerns, the Ranchi district administration has taken proactive measures to mitigate the risks posed by the cold wave. Parents and school authorities have been advised to stay updated on weather conditions and follow further instructions issued by the administration.
