Latehar, Nov 26: Jharkhand Police recovered several weapons after an encounter with a Naxal outfit on Monday late night in Matehar’s Manika.
According to sources, a gunfight occurred between security forces and cadres of a leftwing extremist outfit in Sikit-Bandua forest area under Manika police station jurisdiction.
A senior police officer part of the operation told the media that a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kumar Gaurav launched an anti-insurgency operation in Sikit-Bandua forest area after he received intel report of Maoist presence in the area.
The officer further added that the Naxals opened fire at the police team on sighting them. The anti-insurgency team retaliated to the Maoist firing. Taking benefit of the dark and dense forest Maoist cadres managed to flee the locations.
“We suspect we Maoists have been injured in the gunfight as we have recovered several weapons in the encounter site,” added the officer.
