Ranchi, July 18: The Jharkhand Police has recorded significant achievements in maintaining law and order and combating various forms of crime during the first six months of 2025. In a press conference held at the Police Headquarters on Friday, IG (Operation), Michael Raj, shared detailed updates on the progress made under the leadership of DGP Anurag Gupta.
According to the IG (Operation), a robust crackdown led to the arrest of 5 terrorists, 197 Naxalites, 767 cyber criminals, and 12 members of organized gangs across different districts. In addition, 17 Naxalites and militants were killed in encounters, while 10 others surrendered under the state’s surrender policy.
The police also recovered 113 weapons including 31 looted police firearms, 20 standard weapons, and 62 country-made arms, along with 8591 rounds of ammunition, 176.5 kg of explosives, and extorted funds amounting to Rs 4.51 lakh. Additionally, 179 IEDs planted by Naxalites were neutralized, and a joint operation with Odisha Police resulted in the seizure of 3811 kg of gelatin from Odisha’s K Block police station area.
Prominent Naxalites killed in encounters included Vivek alias Prayag Manjhi and Arvind Yadav alias Ashok (carrying Rs1 crore bounty each); Saheb Ram Majhi and Pappu Lohara (Rs10 lakh bounty each); Manish Yadav, Sudesh Ganjhu, Hemanti Majhiyan, Shanti Devi, Rahul Turi alias Alok Ji, among others with bounties ranging from Rs 5 lakh.
Cyber Crime Clampdown:
From January to June 2025, 620 cases of cybercrime were registered and 767 arrests were made. Recovered items included Rs 5.43 lakh cash, 1664 SIM cards, 1283 mobile phones, 135 ATM cards, 20 two-wheelers and 8 four-wheelers, 19 laptops, 37 passbooks, 24 cheque books, 3 swipe machines and 1 router.
The Dial-1930 Cyber Helpline received 11,910 complaints, leading to the freezing of ₹15.90 crore and the return of ₹83.84 lakh to victims through court orders. The Pratibimb app saw 83 cases and 474 arrests, with further seizures of 769 SIM cards and 634 phones.
Anti-narcotics action:
Between January and May 2025, 389 cases of drug trafficking were registered, resulting in 393 arrests. Seizures included 553.856 kg ganja (Rs 2.76 crore), 66.566 kg opium (Rs 3.32 crore), 2.49 kg brown sugar (Rs 24.90 lakh), 9950.94 kg doda (Rs 14.92 crore) and 7925 intoxicating tablets (Rs 31.70 lakh).
Crackdown on organized crime and terrorism:
Four cases of organized crime led to the arrest of members from 12 gangs and the recovery of arms, ammunition, and a four-wheeler. On April 26, the ATS arrested five active members of the banned terrorist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT) in Dhanbad, seizing two weapons, 12 bullets, electronic devices, and extremist literature.
Welfare and promotions:
For police personnel welfare, Rs 1.67 crore was disbursed to 622 beneficiaries under the Police Sahayata and Welfare Fund. 108 dependents received jobs on compassionate grounds. Promotions included 64 inspectors to DSP and 9 ASIs to SI.
Sporting Achievements:
Jharkhand Police earned laurels in various competitions including 5 medals (1 gold, 4 silver) in Ranchi, 5 bronze medals in a Kochi table tennis event and 4 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) in the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand
On Republic Day 2025, 12 officers were honored by the Union Home Ministry for their exceptional service.
Public grievance redressal:
Following Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s directive, public grievance programs were held across all districts. Out of 4158 complaints, 3464 were resolved on the spot, and these outreach programs were continuing.
Jharkhand Police’s sustained operations across multiple fronts reflected a determined effort to secure the state, uphold law and order, and ensure the safety and confidence of its citizens.
