India Gears Up to Host 23rd Asian Masters Athletics Championship

3,200 athletes to compete in Asian Masters Athletics in Chennai

Jamshedpur, September 22: The Masters Athletics Federation of India (MAFI) held a high-level meeting on September 20–21 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai, to review preparations for the 23rd Asian Masters Athletics Championship, scheduled from November 5 to 9, 2025.

The championship, hosted by India, will see participation from 23 Asian countries, with over 3,200 athletes competing across multiple events. To ensure smooth conduct, 200 officials and 50 managers have been deployed to manage logistics and coordination.

The meeting was led by Devid Premnath, General Secretary of MAFI, who also addressed a press conference, emphasizing the event’s significance for Indian athletics. He highlighted that the opening ceremony will showcase India’s rich cultural traditions, reflecting unity and diversity.

Representatives from across the country, including Vijay Singh, President, and S. K. Tomer, General Secretary of the Masters Athletics Association of Jharkhand, participated actively. They were assigned key responsibilities for medical care and injury management, ensuring seamless coordination between athletes and the medical team throughout the championship.

Speaking to the media, Premnath assured that MAFI is fully prepared to host one of Asia’s largest Masters Athletics events, prioritizing the safety, comfort, and hospitality of all participants. The 23rd Asian Masters Athletics Championship is set to be a landmark sporting event, reinforcing India’s position on the global Masters Athletics map.
