Jharkhand likely to witness weekend rain

Jamshedpur, Oct 21: Jharkhand is bracing for a shift in weather patterns this weekend, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across several parts of the state between October 25 and 26.

According to the IMD forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds ranging from 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated locations—particularly in central and southern Jharkhand—between October 24 and 25.

The northeastern districts, however, may remain relatively dry during this spell.

In the lead-up to the weekend, weather conditions are expected to stay mostly calm.

On October 22, fog or mist may prevail during early morning hours, followed by a partly cloudy sky and dry conditions statewide.

On October 23, light rain or isolated thunderstorms are expected in southern and adjoining central parts of the state, while other regions will remain dry.

By October 24, the sky is likely to turn cloudy with chances of light rainfall in a few areas.

Meteorological experts have linked this evolving weather activity to an upper-air cyclonic circulation currently hovering over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal.

The system extends up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level and is expected to generate a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.

As this system moves west-northwestwards, it is likely to intensify into a depression over the central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.

If it develops as anticipated, Jharkhand could experience scattered rain and thunderstorms, particularly on October 25 and 26.

Meteorologists have advised residents to stay vigilant and follow official weather bulletins, as isolated areas could witness lightning strikes and strong winds during the weekend.

Farmers have also been cautioned to plan their harvesting activities accordingly to minimize potential crop damage.
