Govt steps in to curb abandonment of girl child

Ranchi, December 17: Hemant Soren led Jharkhand government’s efforts to stop female foeticide in Jharkhand are continuing.

 The state government is giving a reward of up to Rs 1 lakh to informers, individuals or organizations providing information in this regard.

A provision has been made to give a reward of Rs 1 lakh for providing information about foeticide or illegal sex determination clinics.

Although this scheme was started three years ago, during the Covid period.

But the Health Department has not yet received a single complaint of female foeticide or illegal sex determination. Now the government is going to promote this scheme afresh. For this, help of public relation department and other departments will be taken.

As per Health Department sources any person or informer can inform the department official about female foeticide or illegal baby test. To make a complaint, one can also call toll free number 104. If the informer gives information about the clinic, then a provision has been made to give Rs 40,000, Rs 40,000 to the pregnant woman and Rs 20,000 to the person who cooperates in this work.

The Health Department has expressed concern over the fact that newborn babies are often found abandoned in deserted places. The number of girls is more in this. At the same time, people abort the newborn baby in the womb by getting the sex determination done illegally. Many times people leave the newborn baby in the hospital and clinic.

Such a newborn is sent to the District Child Protection Officer. Foster parents have to wait here for three months.

In their absence, the entire responsibility of the newborn falls on the government.

This can be stopped through efforts at social and legal level. Also, those reporting such incidents can also be encouraged. The scheme has been launched under this thinking.
