Ranchi, June 1: Suspended IAS officer Vinay Chaubey and Assistant Product Commissioner Gajendra Singh, arrested in the liquor scam, were produced before the special court in Ranchi by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday. Following the hearing, both were sent to judicial custody and taken to the central jail in Hotwar.
However, late at night, Vinay Chaubey’s health deteriorated suddenly, prompting authorities to admit him to Ranchi’s RIMS hospital around 1 AM, where he is currently under treatment.
ACB had secured two days for questioning both officers, completing the interrogation within the stipulated time before presenting them to the court. According to sources, the accused denied all allegations and claimed innocence regarding involvement in the scam.
The ACB arrested Chaubey and Singh on May 20 in connection with a liquor scam alleged to have caused a revenue loss of Rs 38.44 crore to the Jharkhand government. Investigations continue, but no concrete evidence has emerged so far.
