Ranchi /Jamshedpur , Oct 30: The Jharkhand High Court has taken strong exception to recent incidents in Ranchi and Chaibasa where children reportedly tested HIV positive after receiving blood transfusions.

During a hearing on Thursday, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar termed the matter “extremely serious” and issued sharp reprimands to state health authorities for lapses in medical oversight and blood safety protocols.

The court directed the state government to take immediate preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Appearing personally before the bench were health secretary Ajay Kumar Singh, the Project Director of the Jharkhand AIDS Control Society, and the State Drug Controller.

The bench instructed the officials to file an affidavit detailing all blood donation camps organized across both government and private hospitals in Jharkhand.

Additionally, the court sought comprehensive data on the current demand and availability of blood units in all state-run health institutions.

The High Court’s intervention follows mounting public concern and a recent central inspection at the Chaibasa MGMMCH Blood Bank, where irregularities in record-keeping and blood sample management were reported.
