Jharkhand High Court seeks response on illegal mining in East Singhbhum Elephant Corridor

Jamshedpur, July 23: Jharkhand High Court heard a PIL concerning illegal mining in the East Singhbhum Elephant Corridor. The division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Arun Kumar Rai, has directed the state government to file a reply by August 12. The applicant, Sirma Devgan, highlighted ongoing illegal construction in Chakulia, Ghatshila, Baharagora, and other areas, implicating forest department officials and mafia involvement. This illegal activity is causing elephants to leave the corridor, leading to loss of life and property. The applicant has called for an investigation and action against the responsible officers.
