Jamshedpur: The first spell of heat wave-like conditions has gripped Jharkhand, sending temperatures soaring across the state. While the mercury climbs, weather officials also predict a shift toward volatile thunderstorms and lightning over the next 48 hours.
Mercury on the Rise
Summer has arrived early for several districts, with daytime temperatures hovering significantly above normal. On Saturday, major cities recorded intense heat:
-
Daltonganj: 39.4°C
-
Jamshedpur: 38.5°C
-
Seraikela: 39°C+
Meteorologists warn that isolated parts of north-western Jharkhand will continue to experience heat wave conditions through March 15.
Thunderstorms and “Gusty” Relief
While the heat persists, a shift in wind patterns is expected to bring temporary relief. A trough extending from Jharkhand to Vidarbha is likely to trigger convective activity across the state.
-
March 15: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) are expected in most areas, excluding the north-west.
-
March 16–17: Stormy weather and light rain are likely to spread across the state.
Recent light showers have already been recorded in isolated pockets, with Pakur receiving the highest rainfall at 6.8 mm.
Safety Advisory
Health and weather experts advise residents to:
-
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
-
Avoid Peak Sun: Limit outdoor exposure during the afternoon.
-
Seek Shelter: Remain cautious of lightning strikes during evening thunderstorms.
