Jamshedpur: Jharkhand’s Health Minister Irfan Ansari has once again displayed insensitivity and incompetence following the tragic incident at MGM Hospital. The tragedy, caused by the negligence in his department, led to the untimely deaths of three poor individuals, leaving the entire state in mourning. Despite this, Ansari made derogatory comments about BJP legislator Purnima Sahu, further aggravating public sentiment. During a TV interview, Ansari remarked that when Sahu arrived at the hospital, her face looked as if it had “cake on it.” This irresponsible statement not only insulted a woman legislator but also hurt the families grieving their lost loved ones.
In response, Gunjan Yadav, former president of the BJP’s Jamshedpur Metropolitan unit, sharply criticized Ansari’s remarks, calling them a clear reflection of his shallow mentality and shamelessness. Yadav said, “When lives were being lost at MGM Hospital due to negligence, the minister had time for irresponsible comments instead of showing sympathy. His incompetence and arrogance cost the lives of innocent people.”
Yadav also highlighted the failures of the Hemant Soren-led government, criticizing the incomplete state of the MGM Hospital, which had been started by the previous BJP-led government under Raghubar Das. The hospital lacks vital infrastructure such as an oxygen plant, a blood bank and an operating theatre. “If Irfan Ansari had been serious about the hospital’s condition, this tragedy might have been avoided,” Yadav added.
Further, Yadav questioned the current government’s actions regarding healthcare initiatives, mentioning how the previous administration had made significant strides, including establishing five medical colleges, while the Hemant Soren government had restricted the scope of health schemes.
Yadav demanded that Ansari apologize for his insensitivity, ensure a high-level inquiry into the MGM incident and hold those responsible accountable. He also urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to remove Ansari from his cabinet for his incompetence and unprofessional conduct.
