Jharkhand Health Minister appeals to PM for banning overseas flights over new Covid variant

Jamshedpur, Nov 28: Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to ban international flights in view of the new variant of Covid infection.

The health minister said the country has seen the disastrous second wave of Covid-19 and we are still reeling under its effect.

“So there is a need to stop this new wave ahead of time, in the second wave, four variants including Delta caused havoc. We have to take step that this new variant Omicron will have to be barred from entering the country,’ the minister write in the letter.

Minister Banna Gupta said that there should be a ban on flying from countries where new variants have been found, as well as he said that a strategy should be made from now on to deal with the new variant Omicron, all over the country under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and preparation should be done for this by establishing coordination with all stakesholders well in advance.

He said that PM Modi should be careful this time taking lessons from past mistakes, health department is such where politics should not happen.

In a release to media, the state health minister has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had himself made it the arena of politics.

“When people were dying in the country, Prime Minister had given a call to turn disaster into opportunity and turn the occasion into a festival, how can the people of the house in whose house there were death due to corona celebrate?” asked Banna Gupta.

Minister Banna Gupta said that instructions have been given to speed up the Covid vaccine campaign in the state, there was a slight decrease in the speed due to festivals, but now a rapid vaccination campaign is being run. Corona recovery rate is also close to 99% in the state. But the health department is not taking any chance and is alert.

He said that the department has been directed to make special preparations for the screening of people coming by trains and domestic flights. He said that the state government would soon review the situation on a large scale.
