Ranchi: The School Education and Literacy Department of Jharkhand has issued an important directive regarding the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) 2026. This new order allows candidates currently enrolled in recognized teacher training institutions to appear for the examination.
The Primary Education Directorate clarified that trainees pursuing teacher training courses in recognized institutes can apply for JTET 2026 under the “pursuing” category.
The department noted that it had received complaints about certain institutions rejecting applications from current trainees. Taking cognisance of the issue, the department used National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) provisions and Supreme Court rulings to clarify eligibility norms.
Under this order, candidates enrolled in teacher training programmes (TTC) qualify to sit for the JTET while they continue their studies. The directive also cites Supreme Court judgments, which state that candidates undergoing teacher training possess the eligibility to take teacher eligibility tests.
The department has instructed the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) to implement the order immediately. It also indicated that authorities may extend the application deadline if required.
Officials expect the move to benefit a large number of aspirants preparing for JTET 2026 across the state.
