Jharkhand Governor emphasizes education as key to bridging wealth discrepancy

Dhanbad: In Dhanbad, Jharkhand, Governor CP Radhakrishnan addressed the significance of education in addressing the wealth and poverty disparity within the state. Despite being rich in resources, Jharkhand faces a paradox where its residents experience poverty. Governor Radhakrishnan emphasized that quality education is the key to eliminating this incongruity, and local institutions, including prestigious ones like IIT, play a vital role in providing equal opportunities to the local population.

Speaking as the chief guest during the 98th Foundation Day celebration of IIT ISM, Governor Radhakrishnan stressed the need for setting high standards in higher educational institutions. He urged for the creation of an environment where children from all backgrounds have access to quality higher education. According to the Governor, fostering such an environment is crucial for eradicating the economic divide in the state.

During the Foundation Day ceremony, 30 scientists from IIT ISM, recognized among the top two percent globally by Stanford University, were honored. Additionally, 16 research scholars received the Indramohan Thapar Research Award, and 11 teachers and non-teaching staff completing 25 years of service were acknowledged with the Long Service Award. Special Categories Award, Women Achievers Award, Student Achievers Award, and PMRF Award were also presented to deserving individuals and groups.

Governor Radhakrishnan encouraged teachers, students, and alumni to reflect on what they can contribute to society beyond their personal lives. He emphasized that the true success of education lies in the positive impact it has on society. The program also featured addresses by special guest MP Pashupatinath Singh, IIT ISM Chairperson Prof Prem Vrat, and Alumni VK Arora, providing a comprehensive perspective on the institute’s 98-year journey.
