Jamshedpur: The much-awaited counting of votes for the Ghatsila Assembly by-election is scheduled to begin at 8 am on November 14 at the Jamshedpur Cooperative College, officials confirmed on Thursday. Security arrangements have been intensified to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
The counting will be conducted in 20 rounds across 15 tables under tight supervision and security. Preparations have reached the final stage, with the district administration making comprehensive arrangements to ensure a transparent and error-free process.
The by-election, held on November 11, witnessed a remarkable voter turnout of 74.63 per cent, reflecting the active participation of the electorate in this Scheduled Tribe-reserved constituency of East Singhbhum. The high turnout is being seen as a strong indication of the voters’ enthusiasm and engagement in the democratic process.
Karn Satyarthi, District Election Officer (DEO) cum Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Singhbhum, stated that all preparations for counting have been completed. “The counting will start at 8 am in the Jamshedpur Cooperative College premises. Adequate arrangements have been made to ensure transparency and smooth conduct of the counting process,” he said.
Authorities have deployed a large number of security personnel at the counting centre, including police and election officials, to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain strict law and order. Entry will be regulated, and only authorised personnel, candidates’ representatives, and media will be allowed inside the counting hall.
The Ghatshila by-election has drawn significant attention due to the political dynamics of the constituency, which has historically been a closely contested seat. Analysts say the results could have wider implications for local politics and party strategies in East Singhbhum.
Voters, meanwhile, have expressed optimism that the by-election reflects their commitment to participating in the democratic process and influencing the political landscape of the region. With the counting set to begin early on Thursday, all eyes will be on the Jamshedpur Cooperative College, where officials are expected to announce the results round by round.
The counting process, as per the election schedule, is likely to proceed in multiple rounds, with each table handling a designated number of electronic voting machines (EVMs). Election officials have assured that all EVMs and VVPATs will be thoroughly verified to maintain accuracy and credibility in the final results.
As the constituency waits for the outcome, political parties and candidates have called for calm and adherence to the rules, stressing the importance of peaceful and fair conduct during this crucial phase of the election. The results of the Ghatshila bypoll are expected to be a key indicator of voter sentiment in the region and could influence upcoming electoral strategies.
The stage is now set for a decisive Thursday, as voters, political leaders, and officials alike prepare to witness the culmination of a closely watched electoral process in Ghatshila.
