Jamshedpur, May 3: The cows in all Gaushalas in Jharkhand are almost on the brink of starvation stated Jharkhand Pradeshik Gaushala Sangh general secretary Anil Modi. He said the lockdown imposed as a measure to check COVID 19 spread has created various inconveniences and hindrances to people and also to animals.
Modi said that the Gaushalas throughout the state had been demanding the arrear payments of grants but there had been no response from the Jharkhand government. He stated, The Gaushalas are run with funds collected through contributions and donations. But due to the lockdown the funds have not been adequately forthcoming. This has resulted in cattle feed scarcity in all the Gaushalas of the state. Cows are mute animals and hence cannot express their hunger and pain. Cows in Hindu culture are revered as mothers and serving them is a deed that begets blessings.
The Sangh general secretary said that ban on cow slaughter has been in place in the state since 2011. All cows that are recovered from smugglers are sent to Gaushalas by the authorities. The government grant allows Rs 50 as food per cow per day but the payment has been long overdue. Anil Modi stated that if the government was finding it difficult to sanction the grant funds, it could at least provide emergency financial aid from other sources. He also appealed to all peoples representatives, MPs and MLAs to sanction amounts from their parliamentary or legislative funds to enable Gaushalas to provide food to the cows in their care.
Koderma MP Annapurna Devi has sanctioned Rs 1.50 lakh from her parliamentary fund, Hazaribag parliamentarian Jayant Sinha Rs 3 lakh, Hazaribag Sadar legislator Manish Jaiswal Rs 5 lakh and Pakur MLA Alamgir Alam Rs One lakh. The Jharkhand Pradeshik Gaushala Sangh president RK Agrawal has also organized funds for the purpose.
