Jharkhand excels at 37th National Games, clinching medals in various events

Ranchi: Jharkhand’s athletes have displayed remarkable prowess at the 37th National Games, which are currently underway in Goa from October 25 to November 9, under the aegis of the Indian Olympic Association. The state has secured three medals across different disciplines.

In the sport of Wushu, Sunita Gadi claimed a well-deserved silver medal, showcasing her skills and determination. Javelin thrower Tara Kumari also made her mark by securing a bronze medal, further enhancing the state’s medal tally. In the exciting sport of Roll Ball, the Jharkhand team clinched the bronze medal, illustrating their sporting excellence.

The commendable achievements of Jharkhand’s athletes have garnered praise from various quarters. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Sports Minister Hafeezul Hasan, Sports Secretary Manoj Kumar, Sports Director Sushant Gaurav, officials from the Jharkhand Olympic Association, and the Sports Department have all extended their congratulations to the accomplished athletes.

In other sporting events, the Jharkhand men’s Roll Ball team faced a tough challenge in the semi-finals, succumbing to a defeat against Maharashtra with a score of 17-09. However, they secured the bronze medal based on their overall performance in the competition.

The Jharkhand women’s Roll Ball team, although valiant in their efforts, was unable to clinch a medal, finishing fourth in the points table. In archery, the women’s recurve team, featuring Deepika Kumari, Komolika Bari, Deepti Kumari, and Aghani Kumari, advanced to the finals after an exhilarating match against Tamil Nadu. The men’s recurve archery team, consisting of Gurucharan Besra, Shrey Bhardwaj, Mrinal Chauhan, and Goldie Mishra, secured their place in the finals after defeating Services.

In mixed recurve archery, the team comprising Deepika Kumari and Mrinal Chauhan emerged victorious against Uttar Pradesh, earning a spot in the finals. The Jharkhand women’s hockey team clinched a convincing victory, defeating Maharashtra 3-0 in their third league match, while the men’s hockey team achieved a resounding 6-1 win against Goa in their second league match.

In Lawn Ball, the men’s doubles pair of Dinesh Kumar and Sunil Bahadur emerged victorious, defeating West Bengal with a score of 30-06, securing a medal by topping their group. The men’s triple team, featuring Abhishek, Md Wasim, and Krishna Khalko, also secured a medal by topping their group with a similar score of 30-06. Chhoti Kumari excelled in the women’s singles category, defeating Bihar with a score of 21-9 to advance to the next round.

In athletics, in the women’s 5000 meters final, Supreeti Kachhap secured the 6th position, while Basanti Kumari finished 8th. In Wushu, Shashikant Mahato secured his spot in the semi-finals by defeating K Basomatra of Assam with a score of 2-1 in the 65 kg category. Kanchan Tigga confirmed her medal by reaching the semi-finals in the 48 kg category after defeating Tripura’s Anamika. Nishant Tirkey also secured a medal in the 48 kg category by defeating Harshit Joshi of Uttarakhand with a score of 2-0 in the semi-finals.
