Jharkhand Elections: Graduate transgender trying her luck in politics from Hatia

Jamshedpur: A transgender candidate, Nagma Rani, once aspired to become a police officer and even applied for recruitment, but the opportunity slipped by as she aged out of the eligibility criteria. Under the guidance of her mentor, Sangeeta Nag Kinnar, Nagma completed her graduation at Sogara College in Nalanda, Bihar. Now, Nagma has chosen to enter politics and has filed her nomination from the Hatia Assembly constituency.

Nagma’s entry into politics is driven by a desire to support economically weaker sections of society and to improve basic facilities. She believes that being amidst the people allows her to genuinely understand their struggles.

“I have witnessed and understood people’s difficulties closely, and addressing them requires joining politics,” she says.

Having spent the past 30 years in Ranchi, Nagma has made a living performing traditional songs and dances. Through her interactions with people across various places, she observed that many still lack basic amenities that should be easily accessible. This realization inspired her to pursue politics.

Advocating for opportunities for the transgender community, Nagma emphasizes that they, too, are a part of society.

“After a long struggle, we have started making our mark. A few transgender individuals have received jobs, but many still lack access to education and basic resources. I aim to work for their welfare,” she added.

Nagma aspires to ensure education, housing, and job opportunities for transgenders and hopes to secure a respected position for them within society.

Additionally, she wants to support the underprivileged segments of society and believes that politics will enable her to create meaningful change. Nagma asks for the public’s love and trust, urging voters to cast their votes with honesty and integrity, as she steps into politics with a mission to serve.
