Jamshedpur: The BJP is likely to field Purnima Das, daughter-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and current Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, as its candidate from the Jamshedpur East constituency in the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections.
Although the official announcement is expected by Sunday, sources have informed that her candidature has been decided after significant internal discussions.
In addition to Jamshedpur East, the BJP has finalized several other key candidates. Geeta Balmuchu will contest from the reserved seat in Chaibasa, while Jitu Charan Ram is likely to be the candidate from Kanke. Naveen Jaiswal from Ranchi and Ajay Nath Shahdeo from Hatia are also expected to get BJP tickets. Furthermore, Ujjwal Das is also likely to be candidate from Simaria, and Dr. Arun Oraon from Sisai.
Raghubar Das might have played a pivotal role in securing the Jamshedpur East ticket for his daughter-in-law, vetoing other potential candidates like Shiv Shankar Singh and Amarpreet Singh Kale. With this decision, BJP leaders are expected to rally around Purnima Das to lead the campaign in Jamshedpur East. The party is expected to make the formal announcement shortly.
