Ranchi: The INDI alliance is poised for a decisive victory in the Jharkhand assembly elections, with trends indicating a clear majority for the coalition. According to the Election Commission, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is leading on 33 seats, Congress on 17, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on 5, giving the alliance a combined lead on 55 seats. Meanwhile, the BJP is ahead in 21 constituencies. These numbers suggest a second term for Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the JMM-led coalition government.
This election marks a significant moment in Jharkhand’s history, as it could be the first time a coalition government returns to power in the state. The trends reflect strong public support for the Hemant Soren-led government and its welfare initiatives, particularly the enhanced Chief Minister Maiya Samman Yojana (popularly known as the “2500 scheme”).
The BJP had campaigned heavily on its Gogo Didi Yojna, which promised to provide women Rs 2,100 per month. In response, the Soren government increased the monthly assistance under its existing Maiya Samman Yojana from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500 ahead of the elections. This move resonated with voters, especially women, and played a critical role in swaying public opinion toward the INDI alliance.
Women voters emerged as a decisive force in this election. The Election Commission reported a total voter turnout of 67.74% across the two phases of polling, with women outnumbering men by over 5.5 lakh votes. Women also voted more than men in 68 of the state’s 81 constituencies, showcasing their significant role in shaping the election outcome.
Polling for all 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand was conducted in two phases. The first phase, held on November 13, recorded a 66% turnout, while the second phase on November 20 saw 68% voter participation. Overall, the election witnessed enthusiastic participation from the electorate, especially women, who have been instrumental in the alliance’s strong showing.
As vote counting continues, the trends strongly favor the I.N.D.I.A. alliance. The combination of the JMM, Congress, and RJD has managed to capture the trust of the state’s voters, with Rs 2500 scheme and a focus on welfare politics serving as key factors in their success.
