Jamshedpur, April 5: In a significant administrative move aimed at mitigating the impact of rising temperatures, the Jharkhand High Court has announced the introduction of morning court sessions across all district courts in the state.
The revised schedule will come into effect from April 6 and remain operational until June 27, offering much-needed respite to legal professionals and litigants amid the intensifying summer heat.
According to the official notification, all judicial proceedings during this period will be conducted exclusively in the morning hours. Courts will function from 7 AM to 12 PM, ensuring that critical legal work is completed before the peak afternoon heat sets in.
A short recess has also been incorporated into the schedule, with a lunch break from 9:30 AM to 10 AM, allowing for a brief pause in proceedings.
The decision reflects a proactive approach by the High Court to safeguard the well-being of advocates, court staff, and litigants who often endure challenging conditions during the summer months.
Jharkhand, like several parts of eastern India, experiences intense heatwaves during this time of year, making daytime travel and prolonged courtroom attendance increasingly strenuous.
To ensure seamless implementation, the High Court has issued detailed instructions to all district judges, bar associations, and concerned administrative bodies.
Necessary arrangements are being put in place to facilitate the smooth transition to the new schedule without disrupting the flow of judicial work.
Legal experts and members of the bar have welcomed the move, noting that morning courts have historically proven effective in maintaining productivity while prioritizing health and comfort. The adjusted timings are expected to enhance efficiency, reduce fatigue, and improve overall courtroom functioning during the summer stretch.
This seasonal adjustment underscores the judiciary’s responsiveness to environmental conditions and its commitment to maintaining access to justice without compromising on human considerations.
As temperatures continue to climb, the morning court system is likely to serve as a practical and humane solution, balancing the demands of legal proceedings with the realities of climate.
