Jharkhand CM orders crackdown on drugs, organised crime in law and order review

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren chaired a high-level meeting via video conferencing on Tuesday with senior officials to review law and order in Jharkhand. He directed police administration to remain fully alert and proactive, stressing that no negligence in crime control will be tolerated and public safety must remain a top priority.

Soren instructed officials to identify key criminal cases and ensure continuous monitoring. He emphasised swift action in cases involving missing children and women, directing authorities to prioritise safe recovery and maintain close tracking to ensure a fear-free environment.

Focusing on drug-related crimes, he ordered strict action against those involved in narcotics trade and called for dismantling supply chains at the earliest. He asked officials to identify hotspots of drug activity and maintain close surveillance around schools, colleges, and other institutions frequented by young people.

He also directed a complete crackdown on illegal opium cultivation, with special focus on districts such as Khunti, Chatra, and Ranchi. Alongside enforcement, he stressed the need for public awareness efforts to curb such practices.

Calling for improved public engagement, Soren instructed SPs, DSPs, and station heads to maintain regular presence in offices, interact with citizens, and ensure quick resolution of complaints. He urged officers to conduct visits in both urban and rural areas to build trust and strengthen coordination with local communities.

On organised crime, he ordered strict enforcement measures, assuring that the government is providing full support to police to tackle such activities effectively. He also warned against any protection to land mafias, directing officials to act firmly in land dispute cases, especially in areas around expanding urban zones.

Soren further cautioned that any incidents of custodial torture or deaths will be taken seriously, urging officials to maintain sensitivity at all levels. Meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Vandana Dadel, DGP Tadasha Mishra, along with senior police officials including zonal IGs, DIGs, and district SPs.
