Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren provided a major relief to more than 1.75 lakh farmers by transferring Rs400cr loan amount directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) on Thursday during an event at Prabhat Tara Ground in Ranchi.
CM Soren after transferring the loan amount said, “This is not just a loan waiver gathering, but a celebration of farmers’ dignity. Today, we are united for the honor of our farmers.”
He said that out that 80 percent of Jharkhand’s population lives in rural areas, primarily dependent on agriculture. Soren highlighted the financial hardships faced by farmers, stating that they do not have substantial bank balances or ATM cards. “For farmers, their field is their bank, and their barn is their ATM,” Soren said.
Soren launching a scathing attack on the NDA and the PM Narendra Modi-led Central government accusing it of making attempts to deprive farmers of their rights through “black laws.”
The Jharkhand CM lauded the farmers for their unity and successful protests, which forced the government to repeal the controversial farm laws. Soren reiterated that his government stands firmly with the farmers and aims to strengthen their economic position, making the loan waiver a key step in that direction.
Soren also recalled how farmers across the country surrounded the national capital for over a year in protest against the farm laws.
He said, “Farmers encircled the BJP-led government in Delhi to the point where the government could not escape. Many farmers lost their lives during the protest, but they remained resolute because the BJP was bringing black laws to sell them to traders. The Central government, having sold off the country’s assets, was now preparing to sell farmers as well. But the farmers didn’t give up, and their massive protest forced the government to kneel and withdraw the laws.”
