Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren directs action on Jamshedpur’s alarming air pollution

Jamshedpur, Jan 30: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has taken note of the growing concern over air pollution in Jamshedpur, following a post on X (formerly twitter) by former MLA Kunal Sharangi. Sharangi highlighted the alarming pollution levels in the city and pointed out the absence of public information boards to raise awareness about air quality. In response, CM Soren has directed the deputy commissioner of Jamshedpur Ananya Mittal to take immediate and stringent action to address the issue.

In his post, Sharangi emphasized that air pollution in Jamshedpur has reached hazardous levels, which poses a significant health risk to residents. He criticized the lack of efforts to inform the public about the air quality, noting that one public board only display temperature and humidity, while no information on pollution levels is made available. Sharangi further called on Tata Steel and the Tata Group to respond to this critical situation, as their influence and resources could play a key role in tackling the pollution.

In his X post,  Kunal said “ Hello Jamshedpur! This is WHAT we are inhaling. @TataSteelLtd or @TataCompanies. Who will answer this ? The numbers are criminal and not a single public display board to inform the people. For formality sake there is one to show temperature & humidity. I mean really? Fear or Ignorance? I request CM @HemantSorenJMM Ji to take strict action. @DCEastSinghbhum it’s severely unhealthy. Who will check it ?”

Sharangi has appealed to both CM Soren and the East Singhbhum DC to investigate the “extremely unhealthy” pollution levels and take necessary steps to mitigate the impact. Public dissatisfaction with the rising pollution and the perceived inaction of the authorities is growing. The next steps from both the administration and the companies involved will be closely watched, as citizens await a resolution to the escalating environmental concerns in the city.
