Jharkhand CM for resumption of regular train services

Ranchi, March 15. Chief Minister  Hemant Soren has directed the Transport Department to resume regular operation and stops of trains in the state to facilitate the movement of passengers and provide an impetus to economic activities.

Earlier, with the aim of preventing and reducing the spread of infection during Covid-19, the State Government had requested the Railway Ministry to either stop the operation or reduce the stops of some trains.  With an improvement in the situation, the Chief Minister has given directions to the departmental secretary K. K Sone to resume the regular stoppages of all such trains, in order to provide proper facilities to the passengers coming from and going to Jharkhand.

The department would be writing to the railway ministry soon in this regard.

Sources said that over 30 pairs of trains had been stopped since March 2020.

On March 22, 2020, two days before nationwide lockdown owing to the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Indian Railways service was brought to a halt. During that period several services by railways was cancelled and the Centre ran a number of special trains to evacuate labourers from one part of the country to the other in migrant special trains demanded by individual states.

However,  in March almost after a gap of three years, life seems to be on track towards normalcy.

Recently railways issued orders to resume providing linen, blankets and curtains inside trains, a provision that was suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.
