Ranchi, February 7: The Jharkhand government on Wednesday decided to increase the limit of free electricity to 125 units from the existing 100 units per month for domestic consumers.
In a review meeting with senior officials including the chief secretary, Chief Minister Champai Soren directed the energy department to prepare a proposal in this regard.
“Consumers will now be given free power up to 125 units, instead of the existing 100 units,” an official release quoted him as saying.
The state government started the ‘100-unit free electricity’ scheme in 2022 with an aim to reduce financial burden of the people.
The scheme is applicable up to the consumption of 100 units of electricity per month for domestic connections.
Talking to reporters about the meeting, Soren said, “I directed the officials to make efforts to increase revenue.” Soren, who became the chief minister on February 2, also asked all the departments to speed up the expenditure of their budget so that the targets for the current fiscal could be achieved.
The Chief Minister took updated information about the applications received related to various schemes in the camps organized from 24 November to 26 December last year under the program “Aapki Yojana – Aapki Sarkar – Aapke Dwar”.
He said that it should be ensured at all costs that the applications do not remain pending and the reason for the applications which have been rejected should also be given.
Officials told the Chief Minister that under the “Aapki Yojana-Aapki Sarkar-Aapke Dwar” program, more than 59 lakh 28 thousand applications have been received, out of which more than 60 percent have been executed.
He also directed that there should be a permanent waiting list for Abua Housing Scheme and there should provision for action against misuse and abuse of this scheme.
He also ordered for completing e the process of giving grains to green ration card holders every month and increasing the commission of PDS dealers.
The process of appointing teachers for tribal languages should be completed soon.
