Jharkhand CM announces 2-day holiday for Sarhul

Hemant attends tribal fest amidst protests

Ranchi, April 1:  Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has announced a two-day holiday in the state on the occasion of Sarhul.

He wrote on X, “For the last several years, there was a demand for a two-day state holiday on the occasion of Sarhul.

He said, “Given the importance of this great festival of the tribal society, I have declared a two-day state holiday from this year. We have been preserving and will always preserve the glorious heritage of Jharkhand’s culture and traditions. Jai Sarna, Jai Jharkhand.”

That is, there is a holiday in Jharkhand today and Wednesday. The CM also congratulated on Sarhul. He wrote on X, “Nature’s great festival

Sarhul festival is one of the most revered festivals among tribal communities, especially in the areas of Jharkhand, Odisha and eastern India. It is based on the worship of nature and during this time sal trees (Shorea robusta) are worshipped, which have great significance in the tribal tradition.

“Our tradition, civilization, culture and faith are associated with festivals. This brings enthusiasm, excitement and gaiety in life. In this episode, we have been celebrating Sarhul festival as per tradition for years. Our ancestors have kept the traditions of this nature festival intact and strong. We have to take this inherited tradition further,” said Soren.

Hemant Soren was addressing the students today at the Sarhul Puja Mahotsav organized at the Tribal College Hostel Campus, Karamtoli, Ranchi.

On the occasion of this holy festival, the Chief Minister prayed for the development, happiness, prosperity and peace of the state by worshipping with traditional rituals. The Chief Minister gave the message of staying connected with nature by planting a tree in the campus (Sakhua tree). The Chief Minister congratulated the people of the state on the occasion of Sarhul Mahaparva and said that for the better future of Jharkhand, we have to move forward in a planned manner keeping in mind the coming 25 years.

The Chief Minister said that all the hostels are being renovated to provide better facilities to the students. In this series, multi-story buildings will be built in Adivasi College Hostel, Karamtoli and Women’s College Hostel. He told the students that they should only worry about their studies, the government will make all the other arrangements.

Earlier, Hemant Soren also performed Sarhul puja at Siramtoli Sarna Sthal.

However, there were protest led by former Congress leader Geetashri Oraon who along with her supporters waved black flags before the chief minister and sported black bands on their heads to protest construction of a ramp of a flyover near the Siramtoli Sarna Sthal.

Incidentally, the protesters led by Geetashree Oraon had staged a protest and broke police barricades demanding the complete removal of the ramp on March 30 leading to a scuffle with the police. Subsequently, a police FIR was lodged against them at Chutia police station.
