Ranchi: The Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce actively participated in a workshop organized by the Finance Department, contributing valuable suggestions for the upcoming state budget. Focused on local employment generation and augmenting government revenue, the Chamber President, Kishore Mantri, welcomed the Finance Minister’s initiative to seek inputs for the budget.
During the workshop, President Mantri highlighted the significance of ample land availability for industrial development. He proposed granting ownership rights to Khasmahal land, particularly the ones where people have resided or utilized for 50-60 years. Additionally, he suggested providing freehold status to non-major owner nature land.
In a bid to enhance government revenue, the Chamber proposed reopening closed iron ore mines promptly. It recommended implementing a one-time settlement scheme for recovering outstanding taxes on commercial vehicles over several years and suggested a similar scheme for all outstanding taxes related to the Municipal Corporation. The Chamber believes that these measures could potentially generate immediate income amounting to thousands of crores for the government.
President Mantri also urged for increased allocations in the fields of education and health in the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. This, he argued, would ensure quality health facilities are accessible up to the Panchayat level.
In response to the suggestions, Finance Minister Dr. Rameshwar Oraon assured a sympathetic consideration of all the points raised by the Chamber President. The workshop, attended by various department secretaries, also saw the presence of regional Vice President Nitin Prakash, Chaibasa Chamber President Madhusudan Agarwal, and member Pramod Chaudhary, among others.
