Jharkhand Cabinet approves inspectors probe  in ST/SC cases, PhD bar relaxed for asst prof

Ranchi, November 22: Inspectors of local police stations can also investigate cases registered under SC/ST Atrocities Act in the state.

Earlier, such cases were inspected by DSP rank officers.

This was amongst the several proposals approved by the Hemant Soren led cabinet at its meeting on Wednesday in Ranchi.

A total of 32 proposals were approved in the meeting held today.

The proposal of the state home department regarding cases registered under SC/ST atrocities Act now gives power to the inspectors to investigate the cases which are registered in the police stations under the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.

Such a decision has been taken due to the increasing number of cases in police stations and the decreasing number of Deputy superintendent of police (DSPs) required for investigation.

The cabinet also approved a proposal that PhD is not mandatory for assistant professors.

The proposal of the state higher education department states that it will not be mandatory to have PhD qualification to become an assistant professor in the state universities.

Candidates who have passed NET will be considered eligible for this.

At the same time the cabinet also approved, Rs 1.20 crore to be paid to the victims of the anti-Sikh riots that took place in Bokaro after the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984.

Its benefit is going to be given to the families of 24 riot affected families.

The cabinet meeting, the government has decided that the parganaits (tribal head) of the state will be given a monthly sum of Rs 3,000. Earlier the government had decided to give one thousand rupees.

Along with this, the government has given ad-hoc approval of Rs 2.26 crore from Jharkhand Contingency Fund for the SUVs purchased for the police during the Hockey Championship.
