Jamshedpur, Oct 28: In preparation for the upcoming Jharkhand Legislative Assembly Elections 2024, authorities have heightened surveillance to curb the movement of cash, narcotics, arms, and valuables from Tatanagar Railway Station. On the night of 26/27 October 2024, at approximately 11:30 PM, a team comprising officers and members from the 200 S.C. 30/Flying Squad of the Chakradharpur Division, along with personnel from 20 S.B./Post/Tatanagar and CIB/TATA, was deployed under the supervision of Inspector Rakesh Mohan.
During the patrol, around 3:10 AM, the team observed an individual behaving suspiciously as he attempted to remove parcel packets of various sizes from platform number 01 while evading security measures. The suspect was intercepted near VIP parking and questioned. When unable to provide satisfactory answers, he revealed that he was carrying gold and silver ornaments, coins, and other valuables. The individual, identified as Vivekanand Jha, aged 34, from Gaushala Nala Road in Jugsalai, East Singhbhum, could not produce documentation for the items nor explain their intended use. Consequently, he was taken to 20 S.B./Post/Tatanagar, and relevant departments were notified.
The Flying Squad Team, along with the Assistant Expenditure Supervisor of Jugsalai Legislative Assembly and a Registered Value Assessment Officer, arrived to assist in examining the contents of the parcels. The inspection revealed that the seized items included 1,444.466 grams of gold valued at Rs 11,411,346, 51,000 grams of silver valued at Rs 3,182,400, 99.63 grams of platinum valued at Rs 277,968, and 4.9 grams of diamond valued at Rs 907,900. The total value of the seized items amounted to Rs 15,779,614 (over Rs 1.57 crore). The valuables have since been handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Tatanagar for proper maintenance and investigation.
