Jamshedpur, Aug. 26: City’s suicide prevention centre ‘Jeevan’ will be organizing a series of programs to enhance awareness against suicides in Jamshedpur on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD ) observed on 10th September.
With the help of various Clubs, awareness Rallies, Paintings etc are being planned by the managemnet committee if Jeevan.
The competition among city schools for Jeevan Trophy is in full swing. Vigilant Schools, who have organized stress reduction and life-skill programs for students have already started submitting their reports for evaluation.
To cover wider areas, Skit plays by students were organized on August 26 at Chamber Bhavan. Students from 15 schools participated, including one from Ghatsila.
This year WHO (World Health Organization) has given the theme for of World Suicide Prevention Day, Take a Minute, Save a Life.
Dr. Jeoraj Jain, director, Jeevan, said, the theme conveys the lack of verbal communication these days. All of us are so engrossed with our electronic gadgets that we hardly talk or discuss. Venting out and sharing feelings keeps depression and in turn suicides away.
‘Youths think that other people will make fun of their problems, so its better not to share’, said, Dr. Jain, adding, ‘by arranging an interschool skit competition, Jeevan wants to make the youth and their wardens aware of the importance of communication and sharing feelings’.
The skits were judged by the prominent artists of the town, including Hari Mittal, Krishna Sinha and Anita Singh. The names of the winners would be announced on 10th September during the main WSPD Program to be held at SNTI.
